Veronica Brown advocates for children’s career freedom

-

VERONICA BROWN, the driving force behind Loriah’s Restaurant located in the Pavilion Mall, Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, has been at the helm of the business with her husband, Uriah, for the past three decades, crafting mouthwatering dishes.

Despite the challenges of juggling her roles as a mother and a business owner, Mrs Brown has always remained fully committed to both.

She related with pride that the younger of her two daughters, 22-year-old Mariah, has chosen to follow in her footsteps and is actively involved in managing the restaurant.

“She’s always here, right through high school, she always come and help,” she said, adding that Mariah made the independent decision to continue working in the family business after completing a diploma in business management in Canada.

“I’m happy because soon I might retire and I would love to see the business continue,” she said.

The restaurateur maintains that parents should always let their children make their own career choices and nurture their aspirations, as true happiness comes from pursuing one’s calling.

“We can give them advice as parents, but we must allow them to do their passion, because they are more comfortable doing what they want and it makes them happier,” she advised.

Every Mother’s Day, Mrs Brown finds herself enveloped in the familiar activity of attending to the needs of others on this special day.

“We always have to be catering, so we always have to celebrate after,” she said with a chuckle.

A long-standing member of Jamaica National Building Society, now JN Bank, Mrs Brown pointed out that she has been able to maintain a successful family business over the years through loans she obtained from JN Bank Small Business Loans (formerly JN Small Business Loans).
