10- Y- O GIRL MOLESTED ON BUS Cops arrest boy after child raises alarm

- CRYSTAL HARRISON

The police are investigating reports that a 10- year- old schoolgirl was sexually molested by a male student on a Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus in Portmore, St Catherine, on Tuesday.

It is reported that the incident took place about 12: 25 p. m.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the suspect and the complainant were aboard the bus, when the male student invited the young girl to sit beside him.

It is alleged that the male student fondled the schoolgirl and she raised an alarm.

It is reported that the male student was held by a passenger who later handed him over to the cops.

When contacted about the issue yester- day, corporate communications manager, Clinton Clarke, told THE STAR that he wasn’t aware of the incident.

However, Clarke said that the lewd behaviour of students on the buses is of grave concern.

Meanwhile, when asked if he normally gets complaints about students misbehaving on the buses, Clarke said yes.

“Their behaviour on the buses

is just awful. We need to engage the parents a little more to get these youngsters to recognise that they are not in a world by themselves. We have received complaints about students playing loud music on their phones and that adults do not want to travel with them. We are trying to work with the parent- teacher associations, the schools, and the police, to bring some sanity to the system,” Clarke said.
