Atkins told the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court that he took the jewellery and pawned it so he could get money to pay utility bills but the complainant disagreed.

The complainant told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that she kept the chain wrapped in tissue on her dresser. She thought it was there only to realise it was missing on the day she wanted it to wear.

She claimed he admitted to taking her chain to pawn it so he could get money to make repairs to his vehicle. The two got involved in a fight over the matter which ended with Atkins punching the complainant in her face.
