Man found guilty of killing elderly woman
St Catherine resident Clifton Harrison was found guilty of the murder of an elderly woman in the St Catherine Circuit Court yesterday.
Presiding Judge Justice David Fraser then ordered that Harrison be remanded until January 13.
The four-week trial, which started on November 29, saw the Crown calling 13 witnesses to the stand.
The seven-member jury deliberated for about an hour before returning with an unanimous guilty verdict.
Harrison is charged in the death of Louise Barnes, 69, of an Old Harbour, St Catherine, address.
PARTIALLY BURNT
The Crown led evidence that in September 2009, the accused killed, partially burnt, and buried the body of the senior citizen.
In his defence, Harrison claimed that he took the deceased to downtown Kingston, placed her on a bus, and that he did not see her again.
He also claimed that he reported her missing, but there was no record of it, the court was told.
Family members of the deceased testified that after being unable to find her, they made a report to the Old Harbour Police Station and a search was conducted.
Barnes’ partially decomposed body was later found wrapped in cloth in a shallow grave in Church Pen district, St Catherine.
Harrison was subsequently charged with murder.
