– Mother says child could have lost vision

A12-year-old boy has been left with bloodshot in his right eye after the dean of discipline at his school allegedly used an umbrella to poke him in it.

The incident, which allegedly took place at a St Andrew school, is now the subject of both a police investigation as well as a probe by the school.

According to the boy’s mother, the dean of discipline used an umbrella to poke her son in the eye and hit him on his back.

She told THE STAR that her son visited the dean’s office because of an incident involving another child. “He got up and went to the dean’s office to make

a report, and she told him she doesn’t want him in her office,” the parent alleged.

“Eventually, he went back out and sat back down, and he warned the child that if she interferes with him again, he is going to hit her, and she didn’t believe what he said. She went ahead and interfered with him again, and they got into a fight. They ended up inside the dean’s office, and he fell over on to a table,” she continued.

The mother said that the dean of discipline allegedly held her son by the neck and forced him against a wall.

EYE DAMAGE

“He then got upset and held her by her clothes and then she then hold him and then commanded a member of her staff to give her an umbrella, which she took to inflict some wound to his eye and to his back,” she told THE STAR.

She said her son had complained about feeling pain in his right eye and his back.

“Even some students met me this morning when I went to the school. I didn’t ask them anything, and they were talking and they were saying that ‘Miss, you should be there fi see when she was murdering him with the umbrella,” she told THE STAR.

When contacted yesterday, the school principal said he is aware of the matter and is currently doing an investigation.

The mother, meanwhile, said the doctor determined that her son did not suffer any major eye damage.

“I feel very terrible about the incident because my son could have lost his eye because the eye is very serious and he needs to focus in school,” she said.
