Empress Ayeola sings for Kingston
Entertaining and thought-provoking are just a few words that can be used to describe Empress Ayeola’s newest track, ‘Kgn Capital Kgn’.
While the tempo is upbeat, the message in the song is not lost and focuses on the challenges of various communities in Kingston. With airplay on local stations and stations in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, the track is getting the reach and attention it deserves.
The inspiration for the track came between 2015 and 2017, when Empress Ayeloa had the chance to visit different communities in Kingston and see the conditions first-hand.
“Getting to know people and the love was tremendous. I had to share the vibes of how I felt from everyone, so I did something to give thanks,” she said.
The colourful and vibrant accompanying music video was directed by Keith Watkis, and communities such as Rema, Brook Valley, Trench Town, Tivoli, Waterhouse and Drewsland served as the backdrop.
SPREAD PEACE
Empress Ayeola’s career spans almost three decades and has seen the release of many songs such as Reggae Lock di World, Higher Meditation, and Jah Jah Ah di Mastah. With a musical style that can be described as roots reggae, her goal is to spread peace and good vibes through her music, and this newest musical offering is no different.
“The greatest thing in my music is dealing with the foundation of love, too much war in the world. The message is for those who are socalled leaders. I want them to remember who gave them power. They are there to serve us; they are supposed to lead our people,” she said. The track is featured on her upcoming album which is expected to be released in early 2018. Her next release is a single titled Us Against the World, a track that shows a more loving side to Empress Ayeola.
