Promoters of Dancehall for a Cause are calling the event a success. The show was staged late last month to help raise funds to offset the cost of surgery for dancehall selector Niko Chromatic.

The DJ’s girlfriend, Kimberley Mais, in a release sent to THE WEEKEND STAR, said that after tallying the funds, more than half the amount targeted had been raised.

The event raised J$2.4 million, which is just over one million short of the intended target.

The statement went on to explain that the outstanding million will be covered as there is an anonymous donor that has pledged to cover that amount.

Along with the funds raised from the entertainer’s GoFundMe page, plans for the surgery to be done before the end of the year are on track.

The release also revealed that not only have the funds been secured, but a kidney donor has also been found.

The family and friends of the selector are expressing gratitude to the patrons and countless sponsors who came on board.

“We would like to thank sponsors such as Tru-Juice, RD Studios, Chicken an Tings, Terrace Bar and Grill, As You Wish Events, the JSAC, Clear Sounds and Sign Channel for their contribution to the event,” the release read.

Pointing out just how much the dancehall fraternity can accomplish when they unite for a cause, the organisers encouraged industry players to continue supporting each other and asked for persons to continue to lift up Niko Chromatic in prayer as he continues his medical journey.
