Gang Goose fails again at Magnum audition
Turtle River Park was filled with sporadic bursts of song as individuals practised their different pieces before facing the preliminary judges for the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall’s Ocho Rios, St Ann, auditions.
A number of familiar faces turned up for the audition, among them Cornel “Gang Goose” Campbell. The 40-yearold aspiring artiste has been a Magnum King hopeful since the competition’s inception 10 years ago.
“Well yuh see Gang Goose, everywhere me go in the world mi attract people more than even Usain Bolt. Not to brag or show off, but my style and image are different. I performed at a club in Orlando called City Walk, and when I finished performing, everyone left the club and came to interview me, so I know my style is different,” said the artiste.
Gang Goose performed an original song called Baddest Thing for the preliminary judges and was met with rousing screams from the crowd assembled behind him. However, he was not considered good enough to make the cut. Nonetheless, Gang Goose has promised to return next year.
WOWED THE JUDGES
Another familiar face at the audition was Ashrock, who was turning up for the fifth year. The singjay wowed the judges with his wittily written song and received loud applause from the other contestants and onlookers.
“You know I always come out and give it my A-game, but it’s really just the work and persistence. I put in the hard work and it paid off. It’s an overwhelming feeling. I said, I’ve been trying for five years. I always come here and make an impact, but right now, it’s a different feeling. The level of respect and appreciation that I just got, I love it!” said Ashrock.
The auditions continue this Saturday in May Pen before heading to Portmore on Saturday, December 9, then closes in Kingston on Saturday, December 16.
