Puerto Rican star Ozuna takes on dancehall

For the past few weeks, Puerto Rican star Ozuna has been teasing the upcoming release of his next single called ‘La Modelo’.

The young star has a powerful online following, amassing half a billion views for a single music video on YouTube.

Still, the artiste is expanding the scope of his sound to include dancehall.

Ozuna plans to extend that by recruiting New-York based, bilingual rap artiste Cardi B to add vocals to the track, produced by Jamaican platinum-selling Rvssian.

During the first weekend of November, the trio visited the parish of Portland to shoot the music video, which was released yesterday.

Short clips from the video, posted on Ozuna’s social-media pages, show a colourful town square, a sweeping coastline shot of Trident Hotel, and even a few uniformed members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

In a recently published Billboard article, Ozuna said the concept of La Modelo “is Jamaican dancehall, brought to the club. It’s a really catchy chorus and a really catchy beat. And Cardi sings in Spanish and English.”

According to the artiste, the Bodak Yellow rapper wrote her own English lyrics.

“I’ve done a lot of collabs, but most of the time, it’s me on someone else’s track. I’d never brought someone like Cardi B into my own music. When you hear, you’ll say: ‘Wow, that woman is amazing, in English and in Spanish’. That, to me, is the real crossover, a mainstream artiste singing in Spanish,” Ozuna said.
