Boyz on offer, no takers

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Michael Ricketts, said the federation is still pursuing and hopeful of a high-profile international game for the next international break in January.

A game with China was postponed in addition to England and Germany turning down invitations to play the Reggae Boyz in warm-up friendlies ahead of the World Cup

“We had a contract with China but we relinquished it because we couldn’t work that date, so we are waiting on them to give us another date,” Ricketts disclosed.

The JFF boss also revealed that the federation had written to all the teams that have qualified for the World Cup and will be playing against CONCACAF teams in the group stage of the tournament, offering the Reggae Boyz for practice matches ahead of the global tournament. Though they had two responses, no game was secured for the upcoming date.

STILL HOPING

“We have written to all nine of them, two have responded to our letters. England and Germany have responded to say they have already secured practice games, but we are still hopeful and will definitely be pursuing something for the next international break,” he said..

“I spoke with our agent this morning and he is actually working on a game for the next window. Leon Bailey will be invited to that game,” Ricketts added.

Jamaica last played an international game on October 2 against Saudi Arabia, losing 2-5.
