KSAFA Under-10 Star wants to play for FC Barcelona

The Guardian Life/KSAFA Under-10 football competition was designed to unearth talent and introduce the sport to young boys.

And in its first year, the tournament, which was held at Football Factory in Shortwood, St Andrew, on the weekend, may have discovered a number of talented youngsters already.

Among the standouts is Zaire Douse of Holy Family Primary School, who received the Most Valuable Player trophy.

Douse was also the competition’s top scorer with nine goals, two of which came in the final against Liguanea FC.

The nine-year-old also scored in the semifinal against Norwood Strikers. He also produced a goal and an assist in the quarterfinal against Duhaney Park FC.

And the young player was feeling very good about himself when the competition was completed.

“I am feeling good about myself. I could not do it without my teammates, coaches and school,” Douse said.

The budding star said the team was always confident they would do well because of the work they did in training.

“Yes, we were confident because the players were working really hard and listening to the coaches. Every day I go to the stadium, coach made me try some kicks to kick in the goal and when I did it she made me one of the free kick takers,” he said.

Douse said his older brother and cousins taught him how to play the game. “I play with my cousins and brother,” Douse said.

“I love football with all my heart and I look for a future in the sport. I want to go overseas to play for Barcelona and I believe I have the potential to do it,” he said.
