BENBOW’S MAGIC LIFTS WATERHOUSE AGAINST ARNETT

- MARC STAMP STAR Writer

Cardel Benbow has certainly made a difference in the Waterhouse FC team since his return last January. He had a short stint at the Drewsland-based outfit in the 2014-15 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season.

After missing the first leg due to injury, the nifty winger netted his seventh goal of the season last Monday night in his team’s 2-1 (3-1 on aggregate) win in the RSPL second-leg semi-final against last season’s champions, Arnett Gardens FC, at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Benbow’s effort, along with Tremaine Stewart’s goal, granted Waterhouse a second trip to the final since the top-flight league’sreturn to the playoffs format.

Steve Clarke scored the Junglists’ lone goal on the night.

Waterhouse will face off against Portmore United next Monday night for the title at the National Stadium, starting at 8:35 pm.

“My duty is to delivery whenever the coach puts me in whether from the start or from the bench. I am ready to give of the best in scoring or assisting. I always want the team to become victorious,” Benbow told STAR Sports after the game last Monday night..

“We are one group, and [we are] playing for each other. Now, we are in the final after struggling earlier in the season. It has been a lot of work to reach this stage,” the midfielder ,who moved back to Drewsland when his club was fighting relegation, pointed out. “We are fully aware that Portmore United is an organised team, so we have to play Waterhouse game, and the better team will be victorious,” Benbow, who won the Manning Cup with St George’s College, shared. “They are a good team, and we respect them, but at the end of the day, the better team will take home the trophy, and that is what we aim to do in the final. We want to go out there and just work hard as a team.” He added:”It means a lot to me after coming back from the United States League. I want to try and help give Waterhouse a trophy.”
