Man fined for using bad words

-

ASt James man who reportedly slapped away a policeman’s hand while resisting arrest for using expletives is to stand trial in the St James Parish Court’s night court on November 12.

Twenty-four-year-old Jordan Eccleston, a waiter of a Montego Bay address, pleaded not guilty to resisting arrest when he appeared in court on Wednesday, June 20. However, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and using indecent language and was fined a total of $5,000.

The court was told that on May 31, a police patrol unit came across a party being held on Barnett Lane in Montego Bay, where Eccleston was heard using indecent language.

When one of the cops approached and attempted to detain him, Eccleston reportedly slapped away the officer’s hand and said, “Mi nah go a jail.” He was subsequently arrested and charged.

“You ever hear about bad words costing $50,000?” presiding judge Sandria WongSmall asked Eccleston after the allegations were outlined.

“No, ma’am. I never used the bad word to the officer,” Eccleston replied.

“It doesn’t matter. As long as the officers heard you, they can charge you. You don’t have to be using the bad word to the officer,” Wong-Small told him.

The matter was subsequently set for trial in the night court on November 12, at which time Eccleston will answer again to the charge of resisting arrest.

Concerning the charges of disorderly conduct and using indecent language, he was fined $2,500 or 10 days in prison on each charge.
