Woman stabs father as he prays

ASt James woman who stabbed her father during a dispute after she interrupted one of his prayer sessions was lucky to escape jail time after her father asked the St James Parish Court to discontinue the case on Wednesday, June 20.

Trisha Bailey, of a Norwood address, was answering to the charge of unlawful wounding.

It is alleged that on June 5, the complainant — who shares a dwelling with the accused woman — was praying in his room when Bailey came in and asked him about an electrical connection.

The complainant asked Bailey to leave the room, and Bailey subsequently stabbed him in the hand with a pair of scissors.

Presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small noted that Bailey and her father had shown up in court on two previous occasions.

“Miss, you need to move out. This is the third time in the last year that you are appearing before me. That is why I am tired of you,” said a clearly exasperated Wong-Small.

“I cannot move because is me build the house. Him (complainant) nuh have no title for the house, and every time him bring me a court because him want me to come outta the house,” Bailey replied.

The complainant, in turn, asked for the case to be discontinued.

“All I want her to do is leave my room alone, and when I pray in the morning time, don’t come kick down doors or kick out windows,” said the complainant.

“It depends on how you pray, and when you talk to God, she doesn’t need to hear,” Wong-Small quipped.

“At your request, the matter is removed from the list. You’ll have to work on a way in which you can live in peace,” Wong-Small continued.
