Coaches confident before Hanover Major League final
Following the semi-finals of the Hanover FA Major League over the weekend, coaches of both Lucea United and the Montpelier FC are fiercely backing their teams to take the title in next Sunday’s final at the Watson Taylor Park in Lucea, Hanover.
Dwayne Ambursley, coach of Lucea, who dismissed Jackson Town 5-2 on Saturday, said Montpelier is no match for them.
A brace (22nd and 56th minutes) from the competition’s leading scorer, Chovian Anderson, set up the win as he was assisted by Oshane Kerr (31st), Orlando Barrett (55th) and Dwayne Smith (74th). Odane Graham (36th and 66th) scored for Johnson Town.
“We are a team that should and be able to get the better of Montpelier, knowing that we have the calibre of experienced players who won the league on numerous occasion. Yes, they have pedigree but, overall, I think we have the better team and structure to beat them,” said Ambursley.
Ambursley said that in his opinion, Montpelier’s best player is a central defender who is “very slow” and “the wrong side of the 30s.
“Apart from him, they don’t have much to offer, in my estimation, so come Sunday we should get the job done and put another title in our cabinet,” he added.
THE BET
He said he even had a bet with his striker Anderson, who has nine goals.
“I’m looking forward to him because we have a bet. He said he would score two in both the semis and finals,” he said.
In the other semi-final on Sunday, Oliver Bright (5th and 67th) and Shavoy Downie (52nd) saw Montpelier getting the better of Super Star 3-2.
Kimani Monroe (45th) and Linford Galloway (61st) scored for Super Star.
Coach of Montpelier Devin Garwood said they are not afraid of Lucea, as they have beaten them before.
“We have a young bunch of players who started the season deciding that we are going take it. We don’t fear any team, we just come out on the day and play ball. We beat Lucea 1-0 in the first, so we know what to do to get the job done, and I’m confident the players will get the job done next week,” said Garwood.
Speaking of his team’s defensive unit possibly coping with with Lucea’s attack, Garwood told the WESTERN STAR, “We have five days to fix it, which we will, and come Sunday you’re going to see a different Montpelier.”
