Put them in a spin – O’Donnell
Mark O’Donnell, coach of the Jamaica Tallawahs, is considering putting the St Lucia Stars in a spin when his side contests its second group stage match of the 2018 Caribbean Premier League, today at Sabina Park starting at 6 p.m..
Tallawahs gave up the largest total in the CPL last Friday against the Trinbago Knight Riders when the Queens Park-based side tallied 223 runs. The Tallawahs of course went on to win, scoring 225 runs, but the coach is hoping to see a better performance with the ball at Sabina Park.
Although O’Donnell believes the record total was due to favourable batting conditions because of the heavy dew that was present at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, he also think that adding a spinner of the calibre Samuel Badree could boost the bowling attack.
“It was one of those games where the surface was that good to bat on so it was difficult. To win from that position was the important thing because we didn’t get our bowling right and we didn’t get our top order right. That is T20 cricket.
“I believe Badree will certainly play a part. It is just a question now of whether we go with the third spinner or like in the last game, where we went with the third seamer. In Trinidad, probable because of the dew, it would have been quite hard to have three spinners in the team because it was very wet in the night. Jamaica is different.
“We got a look at the pitch this morning (yesterday) and it seems good. Tomorrow we will have another look and make a decision,” O’Donnell said.
