Wife vows to keep Mineral Boss’ memory alive

-

Mineral Boss Records (MBR) producer Tawanna Jones has vowed to continue discovering and producing young dancehall and reggae artistes in Jamaica in honour of the late reggae singer Cleon ‘Mineral Boss’ Jones.

Recently, she hosted a competition to choose one artiste who, if victorious, would voice on a MBR project. Jones, who is the widow of the slain singer, had conceptualised the contest after announcing via a post on Instagram that the annual MBR Youngest and Hottest show would not be held on its traditional Heroes Day slot because of the unfortunate death of Mineral Boss.

“After we received hundreds of emails with songs, we chose Dwayne Nash of Waltham Park Road. The song is called Sharea/AngryBird, and it was voiced by Jovi DiPree of Frenz For Real Studios, who also built the rhythm. The song will be released on October 15, Heroes Day, in keeping with the memory of the Youngest and Hottest event,” she said.

Record producer Cleon Jones, 37, was shot and killed on the Caymanas Bay, St Catherine, on December 12 last year. Before his death, he made a major mark in dancehall with Mavado’s Progress on the ‘Money Boss’ rhythm. The song is featured on DJ Khaled’s Major Keys album, which topped the Billboard album charts in 2016.

“MBR motto remains helping to push the youths towards success, and we will continue to fight to keep their dream alive. We would like to thank all the participants in the contest, you are all winners. And we would like to encourage them to continue to work on their craft and never give up,” Jones said.
