Reg­gae Girlz book last four spot

Jody Brown scored a hat-trick as Ja­maica routed Cuba 9-0 last night to book a spot in the semi­fi­nals of the CON­CA­CAF women’s World Cup qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ment.

Brown got her goals in the 26th, 38th and 72nd min­utes.

Sashana Camp­bell added a pair of goals (30th and 75th), while Khadija Shaw (2nd), Deneisha Black­wood (50th, penalty), and Marlo Sweat­man (82nd) also scored for the Reg­gae Girlz.

The al­ready qual­i­fied Canada proved too strong for Costa Rica in the night’s sec­ond game and ran out 3-1 win­ners.

Canada topped the Group B with max­i­mum nine points, Ja­maica were sec­ond on six. Costa Rica (three) and Cuba (0) were elim­i­nated.

The top two fin­ish­ers in the group ad­vanced to play the win­ners and run­ners-up from Group A. The United States topped the lat­ter group with nine points, while Panama were sec­ond on six.

In Sun­day’s semi-fi­nals, Panama will face Canada be­fore the United States op­pose Ja­maica in Frisco, Texas.

The third place play-off and fi­nal are set for next Wed­nes­day.

The top three fin­ish­ers in the tour­na­ment will earn CON­CA­CAF’s spots in the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. The fourth-place team will meet Ar­gentina in a play­off for a berth.

The Reg­gae Girlz have never been to a World Cup.
