New mention date for men charged with murder

-

The five St James men who are charged with the 2017 shooting death of 14-yearold Jordane Blackwood are expected to have their legal representation settled when they make their next appearance in the St James Circuit Court on November 29.

Norval Christopher, Odane Christopher, Renaldo Lee, Kasheef Gilbert, and Jahrome Shelton, who are charged with murder in relation to Blackwood’s death, were given the new date when they appeared before High Court Justice Sharon George on Wednesday, October 10.

It is alleged that on July 29, 2017, Blackwood and the other man were accosted by men from Rose Heights in St James who accused them of stealing from a farm in the area.

A dispute ensued and Blackwood was shot and later pronounced dead at hospital. The other man was shot and injured.

On Wednesday, attorney-atlaw Charles Sinclair told Justice George that the defendants had not yet settled their legal representation.

The court was also told that the prosecution was awaiting several documents concerning Odane Nesbeth, another defendant in the case who died recently.

Justice George subsequently set the matter for mention on November 29.

The defendants had their case transferred to the circuit court when they made their last appearance in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, August 15.
