Aman whom the Hanover police branded a top-flight violence producer in the Chester Castle community in the western parish was shot and killed last Thursday night in a brazen attack carried out by a lone gunman.

The dead man, who was under police surveillance for quite a while for his alleged involvement in a string of criminal activities, has been identified as 31-year-old Orette ‘Tampa’ Leslie.

“This man was no angel and his demise did not come as surprise,” a police source told the WESTERN STAR. “While there is no celebration in the community, I know a lot of persons are saying happy riddance under their breath.”

According to reports from investigators at the Ramble Police Station, at about 9:30 p.m. last Thursday, Leslie was among a group of men who were standing outside a shop close to the Chester Castle playing field, when a car pulled up. A man alighted with a gun in his hand and shot Leslie several times.

As Leslie fell to the ground, the shooter got back into the car, which sped away. When the Ramble police responded, they found Leslie dead in a pool of blood with multiple bullet wounds to his upper body.

A police source said Leslie was shot and injured by gunmen just a few weeks ago and was still recovering from those injuries.

Leslie was picked up by the police last week for questioning in regards to criminal activities in the community. However, after he was questioned extensively, he was released without charge, albeit the man in question was still under investigation.
