Juggling teams not a problem for Reynolds
Vassell Reynolds, head coach of Rusea’s High School in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup and Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) outfit Montego Bay United (MBU), says that while both teams take much of his time, combining both training sessions sometimes makes things a bit easier.
Going into the business end of the competition, Reynolds believes that Rusea’s, who qualified for the daCosta Cup second round as number-one seed, will definitely benefit from this.
He also believes that this will help MBU, who is sixth on the RSPL table, in giving their second-team players competitive football in their practice games against the ‘Russians’.
“One of the things that we did last year, and have been doing, is to combine both teams to work together at times. The main aim of doing that at this stage is to technically prepare the Rusea’s team for knockout stages of the daCosta Cup that will start soon (Wednesday). This naturally will lift their game from a psychological standpoint,” he said.
MATCH COMPETITIVENESS
He said that another reason for doing this is to provide match competitiveness for the reserve players at MBU so that when they are called upon, they will be at a good level to perform.
Reynolds, who also teaches at Rusea’s, admitted that he workload is heavy.
“But ... my support staff is good at planning and organisation. So far, we have been balancing the workload pretty well ... in terms of the training sessions and time between both teams,” said Reynolds.
He said that he puts his teaching duties first.
“So any planning or organisation with, like say, an MBU would not create that negative impact. I have to factor that (teaching) in first of all and then plan my training sessions for MBU outside my work hours,” he added. – K.A.
