Pastor, we want you to marry us

-

Dear Pastor,

This is the first time I am writing to you and I hope that you can help me. I am engaged to be married. My fiancé is a Jamaican.

But he has been living abroad for more than 10 years and he is a citizen there. Friends have told me that you have officiated at their weddings, and I wonder if you would be willing to do the same for us.

My fiancé is Catholic, but I am a Baptist. Would you be willing to officiate for us?

My husband was once married but his wife divorced him. I have never questioned why. We would like to get married before Easter 2019.

He would be in the country about two weeks before our wedding date. We would like to have sessions with you. Please say yes and do not disappoint us.

I am 25 years old and this would be my first marriage. He is 33 years old. Do you think he is too old for me? Please let us hear from you early. Bye, pastor.

H.S.

Dear H.S.,

Your fiancé is not too old for you. He is only eight years older than you. I am sure you’re excited about getting married. I would be happy to officiate. A minister’s licence must be procured.

I can explain that to you whenever we have the opportunity to talk over the phone. You would need to call the office and make an appointment to see me.

But you need not to be in a hurry to do so, because the marriage will not take place until around Easter 2019.

Your fiancé should have a certified copy of the divorce absolute. The licence would not be granted unless he is able to produce that very important document.

Both of you should have the original copies of your birth certificates. And as I said before, we will discuss more of this at a later date. Bye for now.

Pastor
