Jhaytea and Vershon use wordplay on new single
Belizean recording artiste Jhaytea is optimistic that his collaboration with Vershon, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, will improve his chances of getting the elusive international breakthrough in 2019.
The song has been receiving strong rotation on radio stations both locally and internationally, and has been Jhaytea’s most sought-after record outside of Belize.
“The song is a sound system favourite and a lot of DJs have requested dubplates. We are constantly in the studio crafting up new dubs because that is also a way to increase promotion,” he said.
Little Red Riding Hood might be inspired by the fictional story book character. However, the artiste highlighted that the concept of the record is no gimmick.
“It’s all about crafting lyrics in a creative way so that it can be listened by everybody who loves music. We used a lot of wordplay to get our message across in this song and it works for us,” he said. “If an artiste is smart, he or she can make a record without resorting to vulgarity and slackness, and we have accomplished that with this one ... it’s like in the ‘90s, and that’s also the longevity we want for this one.”
As for nabbing Vershon for the collaboration, Jhaytea gave props to the singer for his kindness.
“I have to bless up Vershon every time because there are not a lot of young artistes who try to help others to develop. I appreciate the effort to make the record work and so far, so good. Foreign artistes always collaborate to develop each other and we need to follow the same path as Caribbean people, because the cake can more than share,” Jhaytea said.
The song also features Jovi Dipree.
