I won’t choose a side

STAR of the Month Spice says she has a boatload of love and respect for both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B despite some people wanting her to choose a side.

The Queen of Stage has always been vocal about her admiration for both Nicki and Cardi B. There are some fans, however, who believe that with all the bad blood between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, Spice needs to pick a side.

However, the entertainer says there is room in the industry for both rappers. Speaking with THE STAR in a recent interview, the entertainer, who is currently in a feud with another female artiste in the industry, said she doesn’t see why female artistes are forever being put in a spot where they are at each other’s throats or why their fans need to choose sides.

“I think Nicki

Minaj and

Cardi B are doing extremely well, and I don’t think I should be able to choose between the two. I always say that in the music fraternity itself, not just dancehall, there are a lot of male artistes

whose fans are not being forced to choose. It’s OK for people to love Drake and love Kanye and Jay-Z, but when you have two girls, we always have to choose and it’s always a competition. They do it in America, and they do it here in the dancehall fraternity,” she said.

“It’s not something that I like because I believe two women can do well, and I don’t see the reason I should choose. I like both of them. They’re in two different class so I don’t see why I should choose just one.”

Spice added that with both rappers have expressed their love for her art form, and she believes that a collaboration with either artiste might have already materialised had it not been for the contract she signed with VP Records.

“I would love to do a collab with any one of them, to be honest. Again, VP Records is a stoppage to that because I don’t know how the record would get cleared if it even happens. I think VP Records is playing a huge role in the dampening of my career because even getting a collaboration like that would have to be cleared with VP Records,” she said.

Both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B have individually expressed admiration for Spice’s work. In 2017, Cardi B met Spice at the Bet Hip Hop Awards show where she dubbed herself Spice’s ‘biggest fan’. Also in 2017, Nicki Minaj labelled Spice’s Indicator Remix with Bunji Garlin as her newest ‘obsession’ in an adoring post on Instagram.
