Defence lawyer to be served in 2017 murder case
Two St James men who are charged in relation to the 2017 shooting death of Barrett Hall resident Richard Campbell will remain in police custody until tomorrow, in order for one of the defendants’ lawyers to be served with documents in the case.
Shuwain Pinnock and Jermaine Blair, who are charged with the murder, were given the new court date and remanded in custody when they appeared in the St James Circuit Court last Friday.
Allegations are that on the morning of October 21, 2017, Campbell was walking along the Barrett Hall main road to fetch water when he was approached by a group of three men, who shot him several times. Campbell was subsequently pronounced dead at hospital.
It is further alleged that on November 11 that year, Blair was pointed out in a video identification parade as one of the shooters.
Subsequent investigations led to Pinnock also being taken into custody. Both men were eventually charged.
During Friday’s court hearing, Pinnock’s attorney, Martyn Thomas, told High Court Justice Sonya WintBlair that he had not yet been served with documents from the prosecution even though he had been retained to represent his client.
Wint-Blair subsequently set the case for mention tomorrow, with instructions for Thomas to be served by or before that date.
