Chad Hype looking for musical longevity

-

Seeing the positive reception from performing at Chug It and Marco Polo, two of the biggest stages this summer, Chad Hype is eyeing success and longevity in music.

The entertainer, given name Chadwick May, is son of veteran entertainer Flourgon, and has steadily been honing his music and artistry over the past decade here locally and internationally.

His first major song Drop It, for which visuals were shot in New York, is a R&B-fused track, was mixed and mastered by Grammy winner Serge Sai of Platinum Sounds.

Chad told THE STAR that he is seeking to build on his local fan base and has been more confident following his recent performances.

He said: “Recording is one thing, but having the courage to perform in front of those large crowds and hearing the reception is fulfilling. Couple more of those big stages and good music, Chad Hype reach inside the household.”

Chad, who is a few days shy of his 26th birthday, said that he is no stranger to the stage, having toured with his father, and performed with acts like

Lil Kim, Beres Hammond, and Cham. “Over time mi watch and

develop myself. I am glad for platforms like these to inform people so they can put a face to a name and appreciate the work,” he said.

With his father being a respected musician, one would think that Chad’s journey would be easy; however he thinks the opposite.

“Yea, my father has had success in the music but that nuh guarantee me the same.

I am putting in the work and make the work speak for itself. I am not signed, I handle my own business and use knowledge and experience from working with the likes of Sly and Robbie,” he said.

Chad Hype also has success with Billboard charting artiste Shaliek, on the remix to My Love. The single climbed to number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Plans are in full swing to release the visuals for his new single Feel It on August 31.

Shane Kelly, son of famed producer Tony Kelly, will be producing Chad Hype’s not yet titled EP, which has an October 31 release date.

He told THE STAR: “All in all I want to be an ambassador of this great music and spread the genre worldwide like Bob Marley.”
