JFF prepared to move on without Menzies
Head coach of the Jamaica national women’s team Hue Menzies, along with members of the technical team, has threatened to resign from the job if they are not paid what they are owed.
In a letter addressed to the Jamaica Football Federation(JFF) on September 6, Menzies and the staff stated they will not be part of the team going forward if the federation doesn’t honour
their financial agreements to them by September 25.
In response, the president of the JFF, Michael Ricketts responded to the letter on Wednesday indicating that they are prepared to proceed without Menzies and the staff if there is no improvement before the September 25 deadline.
NOT PAID IN FULL
“We have taken note of the position that you have posited, that if the technical staff is not paid in full by September 25, 2019 that the addressees of this letter will not agree to the federation’s terms. Accordingly, the federation will seek to appoint available individuals to fulfil the required positions for a technical staff to meet the Concacaf Women’s Olympic qualifying dates,” the letter read.
“We assure you that all funds will be transferred to your accounts by the above-mentioned period we have stated.”
Jamaica is expected to compete in the Olympic qualifiers, which run from September 30 to October 8. The action taken by Menzies and the technical staff comes on the heels of members of the team threatening on social media that they will not play in any future tournaments until they receive the full payment contractually owed to them.
