Why do people cheat? “S

ome man a gi bun and a get back bun. Ah nuh nuttin’ dat. Call it bun fi bun.” This hit song was made popular by Captain Barkey in the ’90s, and the sentiment is still very relevant today in relationships.

It seems that couples in relationships have a hard time staying faithful to each other. With the data showing that divorce is on the rise, one has to wonder if scientifically, human beings can actually stay together in happy relationships.

Luckily, the researchers at the University of Queensland have conducted extensive interviews of subjects in a study to figure out why people cheat and found that there are certain factors that cause a person to be more likely to be unfaithful.

For example, they found that people who are impulsive may just cheat without taking a moment to consider the consequences, instead just acting on their immediate feelings at the time. They have also found that partners with a promiscuous past are more likely to be unfaithful.

“Participants who had experienced sexual intimacy with a greater number of partners also reported greater extradyadic sex and extradyadic kissing inclination,” the study authors wrote. “This inclination may be attributable to the individuals’ skills at recognising sexual advances or recruitment of sex partners.”

LACK OF SATISFACTION

When looking at why people cheat, there are the usual reasons like lack of satisfaction, detachment, and low relationship satisfaction. For this particular study, researchers surveyed 123 heterosexual individuals in relationships between the ages 17 and 25. In addition to highlighting issues stemming from relationship dissatisfaction, the study also found that men who cheat are more likely to have sex than women.

Cheating is never a good idea because of all the negative effects that it can have on relationships. It’s especially hurtful for the partner who is on the receiving end. It’s important to be honest and communicate in your relationship, especially if you are having challenges. You can decide to work them out or leave. Just remember that there are consequences to cheating.
