Create a dancers’ organisation, says White Line

-

Spanish-town based dancer White Line says that while he supports the moves of Lonsdale ‘Boysie’ Guy to build a museum to honour the late Gerald ‘Bogle’ Levy, he believes that dancers should create their own organisation.

“We should start an organisation that defends the rights of dancers, and create an insurance plan and a fund for dancers in case they get injured or get ill. We can support them, and do that in Bogle’s name,” he said. “Several dancers have got sick and they are basically on their own. I believe that would honour Bogle even more than a museum would. We should get together and advocate for something real.”

Levy, who made iconic dance moves like ‘Bogle’ and ‘World Dance’, was shot and killed in 2005 at a gas station in St Andrew after departing Weddy Wednesdays at Stone Love HQ.

Guy has advocated a Bogle museum at the site where the dancer once lived on Lincoln Crescent in Kingston.

White Line, given name Garfield Griffiths, has created a new dance move named after himself, which he said is generating a buzz in Spanish Town, from which he hails.

The moves will be showcased in the upcoming videos for dancehall artiste Ganggoolie, with whom he will be working to do the visuals.

“Social media is a great tool to grade your progress and the impact you are having on people, and I feel that the ‘White Line’ dance is beginning to take off. I feel great to see people all over the world sharing their versions of the dance, and that shows the world that my work and energy are making an impact,” he said.

White Line has carved out a niche for himself as a dancer in St Catherine, where he is well known for his attendance at entertainment

events.
