Reggae Girlz in 11-0 romp

- LIVINGSTON SCOTT STAR Writer

Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz are making light work of Group B in the Concacaf Olympic qualifiers at the National Stadium. Last night they hammered St Lucia 11-0 to record their third successive win.

Khadija Shaw and Deneisha Blackwood both got hat-tricks. The Girlz have now scored 30 goals in three matches, following, earlier 12-1 and 7-0 wins over Cuba and Barbados, respectively.

Assistant coach Lorne Donaldson said although the games are not giving them much competition, he thinks they have shown great character and discipline to keep their standard high.

“The challenge is with ourselves, we challenge the girls to do certain things better. And it looks like it’s working,” he said.

Jamaica took the lead after just three minutes when Shaw broke through and slotted home.

Two minutes later, Cheyna Matthews scored to make it 2-0. St Lucia remained discipline and resilient but Shaw added her second and the team’s third when she weaved her way through a maze of defenders before firing home.

Deneisha Blackwood made it 4-0 when she finished off a cross from Matthews in the 24th minute.

It became 5-0, thanks to Dominic Bond-Flaza’s low drive.

Then Shaw sealed her hat-trick when she scored from six yards after 34 minutes to make it 6-0.

Tiffany Cameron thumped home the seventh in the 37th minute.

The Girlz continued their onslaught after the break when Trudy Carter fired one home.

Blackwood’s long range effort put the Girlz 8-0 in the 68th minute and then completed her hat-trick with a rasping drive from 12 yards to make it 10-0 moments later.

Toriana Clarke capped off a great night with a low strike from 20 yards.
