Gardner not satisfied with 1-1 draw

-

Portmore United coach Ricardo Gardner said they could have done better after the team’s two-game winning streak in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) came to an end at the Edward Seaga Complex yesterday. Portmore were held to a 1-1 by hosts Tivoli Gardens.

Rushane Spence fired Tivoli in front in the 16th minute, but Ranike Anderson’s strike early in the second half earned Portmore a share of the spoils and keep them unbeaten in their last three matches.

“Tivoli is always a difficult place to come, so in games like these you have to be a lot more clinical “Gardner said afterwards

“It was a good team performance but there were things we could have done better. We could have been more positive and braver in the opposition’s final third,” he added.

Portmore made the early running but it was Tivoli who broke the deadlock, after veteran Jermaine Johnson unlocked the Portmore defence with one of his trademark dribbles and Spence was there to steer home from close range.

Minutes after the break, Portmore were on level terms after they caught the hosts on the break and Anderson raced through to score the equaliser.

Anderson had a couple chances to get another for Portmore but he could not capitalise.

However, Junior McGregor came closest to finding a winner but his shot rattled the post and back into play.

Tivoli coach Philip Williams thought it was a fair result.

“It was a fairly balanced game. The chances were far and few, but we created enough openings to get another goal,” he said.
