We are living in the last days
With Corn Piece Settlement under COVID-19 quarantine, 80-year-old Linda Allen will be unable to receive any visits from any of her relatives who live outside the Clarendon community.
However, the senior citizen, who lives alone, said that she is somewhat unbothered as she is already boosting her immune system with herbs from her backyard and the market.
In addition to that, she is not surprised by the deadly virus that has claimed the life of another senior citizen, who once lived just about a mile away from her dwelling.
“We are living in the last days and The Bible have to be fulfilled.
I am saddened that someone died from it and I am going to tell everyone to boost up their bodies. Even this morning, I make some cerasee tea and I have other bush that I boil. I am going to go the market to buy carrot, calalloo and beetroot to build up mi system, but mi nah worry about anything,” she said.
UNDER THE WEATHER
Allen stated that until she saw the news team, she had no idea that someone had died from the virus, while adding that she has been under the weather for the past few days.
“Mi just a feel pain in my head and body but I don’t think is the coronavirus or anything. At my age, pain is expected, so mi just a go use my little remedy and treat myself but I am not worried about staying here by myself,” she said.
Another resident, Courtney Knowland, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the first local COVID19 fatality was a former ‘church brother’.
“Mi and him used to go same church but mi never see him for the past four years, but mi hear say him did come back from farrin di odda day. Him was a really nice man,” he said. “Mi was keeping a close ear on the virus and was praying against it and binding it up because is my faith mi a rely on to keep me safe. I am not afraid of corona but mi still make sure mi nuh go any and everywhere like one time,” he continued.
The man, who passed away on Wednesday afternoon, travelled to the island on Thursday, March 12, along with his wife, son, and grandson, to conduct business.
They arrived from New York, where he lives.
“Mi just sorry him have to dead and leave him family that way and mi really hope it nuh spread any further. But is just The Bible a fulfil and we just have to pray and turn away from our wicked ways and then God will heal our land,” Knowland said.
