Harbour View player locked down in Bull Bay

Harbour View FC chairman Carvel Stewart says a senior player of the team is devastated as he is unable to train after being locked down in quarantine in the Eight Miles community for over a week.

On Friday, March 13, Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared that the Seven Miles and Eight Miles communities in Bull Bay, St Andrew, would become a quarantine zone for 14 days to prevent possible cases of COVID-19 in the area from spreading, restricting movement of residents. While not disclosing the player’s identity, Stewart said he is a very influential member of his side.

“He is not happy about it, but he accepts that is what is asked of him, so he is obeying it,” Stewart said. “He is no exception, because he is like everybody else who lives in the area, so he just has to adjust to the system out there.”

STILL TRAINING

The Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) has been postponed since March 12 after a number of individuals tested positive for COVID-19 in Jamaica. However, Stewart says that his team has continued training on the advice of a medical doctor.

“We are still training and we are training in smaller groups, and that was a medical doctor’s recommendation,” he said. “We are doing alternate training at the moment, so one day a small group trains and then a different group will train the next day. When the groups are not at the training, they are given a programme to do on their off days.

Stewart said that he will be seeking a meeting with the clubs on the way forward for the RSPL in the coming days.

“We don’t know what is going to happen with the league, so I am trying to see if I can get a meeting this week for a broad discussion among the clubs to see what they think, because we are still intent on completing the league one way or another.” he said.
