Stamma Gramma gives positive message amid COVID-19 scare
Stamma Gramma, the former dancehall artiste-turned-podcaster, hopes that the latest release of his podcast called ‘Patient Zero’, which is dedicated to spreading awareness about the deadly COVID-19 virus, can save as many lives as possible.
“On a platform such as Facebook in these unprecedented times, there is all sorts of saturated negative content being shared, with the intent to mislead, misguide, harbour panic and humour. There needs to be cooler heads prevailing, that is why I use my platform to assist and educate and encourage individuals in need, rather than constructing jokes,” he said.
The Patient Zero video was shared more than 4,000 times online, and was set out on a platform reaching 1.4 million people, with the majority of the audience from the Caribbean accounting for roughly 750,000 views.
More than 127,000 people worldwide have recovered from COVID-19, while more than 25,000 people have died, including more than 5,000 in the US.
Jamaica has recorded 47 cases of its own, and additional cases seem highly likely in the near future.
Stamma Gramma, whose given name is Michael Williams, urges the people of Jamaica to refrain from taking the virus lightly.
“One of my family members from New Jersey contracted it and gave (passed it on to) his whole family – his wife and his kids – and they are under quarantine now,” he said. “Take it serious, practise social distancing. We can defeat this thing; and we have to defeat this thing for the good of humanity. We just have to follow instructions and keep a hopeful outlook, no matter how bad the situation might get. Better days will be here again. God is always in control,” Stamma Gramma said.
