Jada Kingdom releases ‘Budum’ on int’l label

-

Dancehall artiste Jada Kingdom has been on a musical high in recent times. After eclipsing Koffee earlier this month for the top spot on the local YouTube trending list with her single WiN, the artiste achieved another career high when she was featured on Popcaan’s recent project currently racking up streaming numbers across the globe.

Last Friday, Kingdom released another track, one she recorded on the Mad Decent label, run by Diplo of Major Lazer.

EXPAND MARKET

The single, Budum, is aimed at women. Kingdom said that having done the song on an internationally based label, she is looking to expand her reach in the overseas music market.

“Mad Decent are an amazing team to work with and the partnership has really come at the right time for me. We received loads of offers from labels but we decided to go with Mad Decent because it makes so much sense on a business and creative level,” she said. “I really feel the belief they have in me and being an independent label, they can move at a much more nimble pace than a major label. I really feel like a priority with them and I look forward to seeing where the partnership goes. And believe me, we have so much good music and content to come,” she said. Kingdom said she hopes Budum has a universal feel.

“We stayed true to the dancehall vibe with the beat, so of course we would want it to crossover. Still, we always put out our music without any expectations but just work each project as hard as we can and see if it connects. What I want most for the track is that it will have everyone wining their waists and rocking their bodies and help us forget some of the craziness going on around us,” she said. Kingdom says with all the hard work she has put in over the last few years, she believes all the success she has been reaping in recent times is that labour bearing fruit.
