Solaun ready for fresh start!
National senior women’s midfielder Havana Solaun will be playing football in new surroundings this fall, as the 27-year-old has signed a deal to play for Cyprus club Apollon Limassol FC.
Solaun will be returning to club football this year after her season was hampered by the coronavirus pandemic. She had initially signed for French club Paris FC in January but was unable to make an appearance for her club. The outbreak in
France caused the 2019-20 season to be cancelled and Olympique Lyon awarded the title as a result.
Solaun says that she is looking forward to the opportunity to play and is hopeful she can win the 2020-21 UEFA Women’s Champions League with her new club.
“I am very excited about signing with Apollon and [I’m] looking forward to a new challenge,” she said on the club’s Instagram page.
Apollon was the destination of another Reggae Girl, forward Tiffany Cameron, who spent a part of 2015 with the club, but only made three appearances before leaving for FC Ramat Ha Sharon in Israel.
Solaun’s professional career started in the United States in 2015 with the National Women’s Soccer League, playing three years for the Seattle Reign and the Washington Spirit, respectively, before heading to Europe in 2019 to play in Norway for club Klepp IL.
The 2020-21 season is scheduled to begin next month, and 10time champions Apollon are slated to open their campaign against Ermis Apollon on September 13.
