Digicel and THE STAR partner to ease back-to-school burden

-

Parents Nicola Richards and Trudie-Ann Nooks are breathing a sigh of relief as the back-to-school season gets into full gear. Their delight is the result of them being picked as winners of back-to-school shopping vouchers, courtesy of Digicel and THE STAR.

Readers were encouraged to email their completed back-toschool assistance form that was printed in THE STAR in order to win daily prizes of $5,000 Sangster’s shopping vouchers. Readers wishing to win up to $25,000 in shopping vouchers were encouraged to submit the completed form with a 1-2 minute video on how they will be homeschooling their children.

Richards, a parent of two from Innswood Village, St Catherine, commented, “The impact of COVID-19 had bills piling up and, in some cases, bills were doubled. This eroded my spending power to the point where I wasn’t able to start back-to-school shopping earlier. So reading THE STAR I saw the ad and just went for it. I’m happy I was found eligible because this [voucher] has significantly assisted me at this time.”

LAID OFF SINCE MARCH

Nooks, from Rollington Town, Kingston, had a similar story. “Mi really grateful for the help. I have been laid off since March as a result of schools closing, and since then, it has been hard … but you know, God doesn’t give us more than we can bear.”

Chief marketing officer for Digicel, Nasha-Monique Douglas, said her company was happy to be part of giving these students a bright start to the new school year.

“Through this very important partnership with THE STAR, more students in need will be able to get the textbooks and materials they require to ace their studies. At the same time, we are working to provide the most reliable Internet services that power their digital learning experiences,” Douglas said.
