Two killed in confrontation with cops
“Da movie ya end well” are the exact words of some residents of Knockpatrick in Waterford, St Catherine, after police foiled what could have been a bloody attack on their community by armed men yesterday afternoon.
Police reports are that approximately 1:30 p.m., upon receiving a tip that men were on their way to commit a murder, lawmen intercepted a silver Nissan Wingroad motor car with three men aboard. They reportedly challenged the police and two of them were shot. They were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were pronounced dead. The third man escaped.
“A just God a wipe while man a plan. We could a nuh here stand up right here so a talk because we don’t know who or what di man dem did a go after. When mi hear di noise, me never know a shot enno, is when mi see people a run,” a resident said. “The police dem do a good job and we have to thank dem fi dat because a nuff time we burn dem out when dem do foolishness but today God and dem deserve all the praise.”
Another resident said persons had seen the car earlier and instantly thought something was amiss. He said the men were strangers to the community and that was what had helped the police to corner them.
RUN ON HOUSETOP
“We just see two a di man dem a run on housetop and one drop off and drop inna a hole in somebody back yard. A di residents all make di police dem know say him round here too. Dem clearly never know the way because dem get shot up from round the road and just start run, so dem clearly never know whe dem a run too. Dem couldn’t drive out either because it nuh look like dem know the way or dem panic,” he said.
While the police processed the crime scene, colleagues were searching a section of Caymanas Drive where the ill-fated car had slammed into a wall as the driver tried to escape. Several bullet holes were observed in the car. Head of the St Catherine South Police Division Senior Superintendent Clive Blair said two firearms were also recovered.
“This is a warning to criminals not to venture into the St Catherine South Division,” he said.
