MAN ALLEGEDLY SITS ON PREGNANT WOMAN
A26-year-old man who was allegedly seen sitting on a woman who is pregnant with his child will know his fate on July 5.
Jowayne Hinds pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding, when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.
The court heard that on June 3, Hinds went to the female complainant’s home and asked if he could stay. She told him to leave, but he refused and he started to hit her all over her body in the presence of her son.
The court further heard that her screams of “Murder! Murder! Murder!” alerted a neighbour, who rushed to her assistance. The neighbour, who is another complainant in the matter, told the court that he saw Hinds sitting on the complainant who is pregnant. He said that he tried to pull Hinds away, but was punched in his face by the accused, causing his bottom lip to bleed.
Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks gave Hinds the opportunity to explain his actions.
“Sir, we did in an argument, Sir. Me never beat her up, me just did handle her rough. Never beat her up,” Hinds said.
Crooks asked if Hinds had money to compensate the complainants for their injuries, to which he told the judge that he had $40,000.
The female complainant refused compensation and the other complainant received $20,000 for his injuries. The judge said that incidence of domestic violence should not be taken lightly. “You’re Jamaican and the culture we living, almost every other day you hear on the news how partners killing or beating their partners, and what is aggravating is that she is pregnant. You can see that she is pregnant and she is pregnant with your child, which didn’t stop you from putting the licks on her,” Crooks stressed. Hinds was carted from the courtroom in handcuffs, with his head hung low.
