Fun galore at Cane River Falls

some relaxation yesterday.
It was the second time that ShannaKay was visiting the attraction. She was among several persons who went to the chill spot to enjoy Emancipation Day and soak up breath-taking environment created by the soothing waterfalls and the crisp, clean air.
“Mi enjoy myself to the max because mi nuh know when mi ago can get fi come back again,” Shanna-Kay told THE STAR.
A THIRD WAVE IN JAMAICA
The fun-seeker appeared mindful that the Government could, again, shutdown rivers and beaches in a bid to reduce the spread of COVID-19, which has began a third wave in Jamaica. Last August the Government shut down these recreational spots. They remained closed until two months ago. However, with the number of COVID-19 cases on the island beginning to rise again, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has signalled that the containment measures currently in place would be tightened.
Beach and rivergoers were forced to cut short their adventure at 2 p.m. yesterday due to curfews and reduced opening hours that have been imposed by the Government. At Cane River Falls, where the infectious laughter of children frolicking in the water could be heard from a mile off, a team of police officers stood outside the venue, seemingly to enforce COVIDinduced measures. Their presence, however, would not dampen the spirits of persons who turned out to enjoy the chill spot that Bob Marley often visited to wash his dreadlocks.
Tevaun Beale, a first-timer at Cane River Falls, said he is hoping to revisit the popular destination before Prime Minister Holness addressed the nation again later this month. He said a lockdown is highly possible and necessary.
“I had an amazing time and my favourite part was the ‘abuse’ that I got from the fall. On a serious note, however, a lockdown may be necessary because if you should look now, there is no one wearing any mask and neither is social distancing being practised. Persons are holding on to each other, stranger or not to climb on the rocks,” he said.
“I am going to gather more family and friends and come back before August 11. The water is nice so I want to come back and enjoy myself,” Beale added.
For Angelica, it wasn’t so much about swimming and taking a ‘beating’ at the fall, but rather an opportunity for her and her friends to make videos for Snapchat and other social media sites.
“This is my second time here but I really deserve it as I work really hard. About five years ago was the last time I visited, but I really deserve to have a bit of fun,” she said.
