Retired cop robbed at ATM
THE STAR has been reliably informed that a retired senior cop was robbed of his licensed firearm and an undetermined sum of money by an unknown assailant last Saturday.
Reports are that about 7 p.m., the former cop stopped at an ATM in the vicinity of Harbour and Duke Streets in downtown Kingston when he was ambushed by his attacker. The robber allegedly escaped in a waiting motor vehicle that was parked along the roadway.
A well placed source confirmed the incident and told THE STAR that a manhunt was immediately launched to find the perpetrator.
“We believe that the person was unaware that the victim was a policeman, but investigation is still in its infant stage so not much information can be divulged at the moment,” the source said. A senior police officer in the Kingston Central Police Division also confirmed the incident and said that a high-level probe is currently being undertaken.
THE STAR could not ascertain if the retired policeman was hurt during the incident.
