Ghost inspired to write real love songs

- YASMINE PERU STAR Writer

Last year, in the midst of the pandemic, Ghost released the inspirational single, Humbly Before Thee, in an effort to provide panacea in the midst of the gloom and chaos.

That song hit the intended mark, and now the artiste, who has remained busy in studio, is ready to drop a ‘rhythm-driven’ compilation project.

“The first song is titled Beautiful Feeling and the ‘riddim ’ is called Affi Move, because when you hear it yuh just affi move,” the artiste with the distinct falsetto told

THE WEEKEND STAR.

“The thing about this project is that it was really supposed to be kinda personal, with just one song being released on the riddim – mine. But a couple of my friends heard it and were like, ‘Nah singer, mi waan go pon it yuh nuh.’ So, I just lay down the rules and tell dem that my song a guh push out first and dem agree.”

It’s a case of all’s well that ends well, and Ghost has no regrets because it was such “a joy” working on the compilation that he even invited a few more artistes to join.

“Fantan Mojah, Gyptian and Cutty Ranks are some of the artistes whose songs will be released. When we were recording in the studio, as Cutty Ranks start deejay, him just a give lyrics straight. It was a lovely thing to see and hear,” an excited Ghost shared.

Beautiful Feeling, an original song written by Ghost and Fabian Diaz, was released on July 23. Ghost says that in a society plagued with violence, he was inspired to get the youth riding on the love train. “It is a real love song and this is the type of songs I want the youth dem to hear. I want these lyrics to penetrate dem consciousness. We need the youth to grow up with love songs and know that love is possible. I remember my youthful days growing up loving my girlfriend and it was all about the love we had for each other, but all that has changed and I want to bring back those vibes. So we sat down and wrote this song,” he explained.

Ghost, who is known for his glorious covers, has been doing more originals, and he admits that having learnt a lot about the music business, this is the best path for him.

The compilation album, Affi Move, will be released this month. Ghost first gained recognition in 1993 singing for Clifton ‘Specialist’ Dillon and was onehalf of the duo, Ghost and Culture. He subsequently moved on and joined Roundhead and General B as part of the blazing Monster Shack Crew. In 1998, they released their debut album, Monster Party.
