Morgan: You are now seeing the real Tivoli

Over his short senior football career, Tivoli Gardens attacking midfielder Horatio Morgan was never known for his goal-scoring prowess but rather for his creative ability, movement and stamina.

However, last weekend against Humble Lion, the 22-year-old showed a feature of his game that those who know him are not accustomed to. He noted that he has been working hard during the lockdown and no-movement days, and he is extremely happy to see his hard work paying dividends.

“During the lockdown I trained with some of my friends, so I was confident going into the game. But I don’t usually score goals, I create goals, so it (hat-trick) just came out of the blue,” he commented. “It was a great hat-trick but it surprised me that I got three in one game. It was definitely pleasing to see the practice pay off.”

The three points against Humble Lion United lifted Tivoli to second in the standings on goal difference behind league leaders Waterhouse with 16 points. But scoring the first hat-trick of this season means more than three points to Morgan, it has been a major confidence booster for the player and he wants to continue on this good run of form.

“The performance ( hattrick) has lifted my confidence more and I am thankful for the encouragement members of the community have given me and congrats to my teammates for helping me get those goals. I am going to definitely try to continue scoring,” he added.

Tivoli had a slow start to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season but their form has improved dramatically over the past three weeks and Morgan said confidence and expectation in the camp is now high.

“We only had two weeks of training before the competition kicked off, so it was a lack of fitness then. But we are getting fitter with every game and we are going to give teams a run for their money.

“We have talked about it and this season we definitely need the cup. The first objective was to get to the play-offs, because without getting into the play-offs we don’t have a chance of winning the cup.

“But after making the play-offs, then the next objective is to go for the cup. And I think we are really fit and ready now. You are now seeing the real Tivoli,” he stated.
