Bad Boy Trevor wants Jamaica opened up for locals
Popular actor Bad Boy Trevor believes that instead of limiting the movement of citizens, the Jamaican government would benefit more by restricting persons from entering the country.
“Each community and parish has different spaces that attract people, like beaches and rivers. I couldn’t stay in Kingston because of the clustering, I go country a St Mary. All we need to do is open up wide so we can have breathing space rather than we bungle up and take the time to focus on each community,” he said.
The actor, given name Garfield Reid, who was fined $130,000 last year for hosting a pool party during COVID lockdown, said it’s not just the entertainment sector that is feeling the struggle from the curfews and no-movement days.
“Once a no-movement day is part of the measures, if the nation is not receiving the assistance needed there is going to be a bottleneck, so the new measures still stupid. The more we have these measures restricting locals, the more we are going to see people breaking the rules. The unreasonable times for curfews is the cause for the bottleneck we seeing, and it a turn Jamaican people into criminal. People feeling like them have to break a law to make a money,” he said. “Then the prime minister consistently waits until last minute to share the new plans putting the people in a panic. People not obeying when they are in a panic, when they are hungry and frustrated. People like me haven’t worked in one and a half year.”
FACING VARIOUS ISSUES DAILY
He said that the average worker is facing various issues daily. “Workers not getting the time. Taxis that should carry four passengers carrying eight, we bungle up just because we can’t do no better. And the part that hurt me is you have people who don’t have a fridge and those appliances to keep the food during the lockdown. There are people who only can afford to buy food each day, so maybe a man have to go him fren yard to keep it. Then when him go out to collect the likkle chicken you have the police a harass him because him move on a no-movement day,” he said. “People inna di ghetto nuh social distance because we can’t, that’s not our lifestyle. You lock down a corner shop weh nuh attract nuh crowd. There are people who are hungry and frustrated.”
While former Agriculture Minister Floyd Green and Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) Councillor Andrew Bellamy were both heavily chastised for attending a party on a no-movement day, Bad Boy Trevor was not as disappointed.
“All it show is people helping to pass the laws, breaking the laws. It shows the discrepancies within Andrew Holness government. These are the same people advising the prime minister of what he can do. He can open up any time he wants.”
