Producer says it’s Knaxx’s ‘Time’
Knaxx’s music has been getting the attention of music enthusiasts over the past year, but producer Charles Sponge believes his latest single, Time, will be the one to give Knaxx his big break. Time debuts this weekend on all major digital platforms, with an accompanying music video scheduled for release on Sunday. “People know Knaxx but mi want him buss, mi want him fi breakthrough with this song,” Sponge told THE WEEKEND
STAR. “This song is gonna be great because the words have so much meaning. It’s a song that is uplifting for and relatable to everyone, especially in times like these. We need these songs.”
Time is a motivational number that weaves the themes of pursuing one’s dreams despite naysayers, working on one’s craft to be the best in the field, and showing love to everyone along the way. The inspirational message is sealed with Sponge Music’s pensive instrumental.
The pair have been working together for more than a year, with tracks like Easy Fi Switch (co-produced by Natural Bond Entertainment), No Negative
Vibes and Born Ruff as fruits of their labour. Sponge recognises Knaxx’s growth since their first project.
“The lyrics have gotten way better and him mature more as an artiste,” he said. “Is a youth where him tek telling a lot and him willing fi learn. Is not a youth weh have a starstruck mentality and with an attitude like that, he’s going places.”
Knaxx, cousin of dancehall star Alkaline, is managed by Alkaline’s sister Kereena Beckford. Sponge and Knaxx crossed paths because of work the producer has been doing with the ‘Vendetta’ boss.
“Is really dem bring him to the forefront, so mi nuh waan mek it seem like mi a overshadow nobody but mi waan put him pon a level and mi feel like we can do a whole heap a work because him naturally bad,” he said. “Mi can even pull him under mi wing and mek him sign a signature, try get him the American visa - a dem level deh mi a try get him thing to.”
