MP promises St Mary South East music studio
An ambitious programme to train youths in entertainment production has been announced for St Mary South East.
Dr Norman Dunn, the member of parliament ( MP) for the constituency, made the announcement during the State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives last Wednesday.
“I am happy to report that after receiving a generous donation of musical equipment from the CHASE Fund, through the assistance of the Honourable Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, we have secured an agreement with HEART/NSTA to create a programme to train artistic constituents in sound engineering, keyboarding, drumming, etc.,” Dunn said.
“This programme will begin very soon. This will complement other programmes such as the setting up of our own radio station, South East FM Radio, and a music studio, which we intend to do in this financial year. This will assist in education as well as to provide the creatives in South East St Mary with an opportunity to develop their talent in broadcasting and music production,” the MP added.
Dunn, who is in his first full term as MP, having been first elected in a by-election in 2017, has lamented the technological challenges faced by students who are doing online classes.
“We have been assisting our young people to get a quality education and to bridge the digital divide with the provision of devices. We are challenged, however, because of the lack of affordable Internet,” Dunn said.
“In addition to the lack of access, vandals are stealing internet cables – twice in the community of Alleppo affecting students and teachers living in that area. Thieves are also cutting cables in Zion Hill and Richmond, affecting the Zion Hill Primary and the St Mary Technical High School. ... I am appealing to the two-foot puss to stop stealing the cables,” the MP added.
