Eight arrested as cops find guns

The police seized four illegal firearms and more than 37 rounds of ammunition in a 24-hour period, resulting in the arrest of eight persons.

In the first incident, an operation was carried out by detectives within the Kingston West Police Division resulting in the seizure of one Browning pistol and one Beretta pistol along with 17 rounds of ammunition. Devonte

Watson, 20, and 18-yearold Javanty Lucas, otherwise ‘Shava’, both of Kingston addresses were arrested.

In St Andrew South, five men were arrested and charged following the seizure of one Heckle and Kotch 9mm pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition. A police team on patrol accosted the men on Bowens Road. The area was searched and the firearm and ammunition were seized. Charged are: Ricardo Taylor, otherwise called ‘Broomy Boy’, Teven Campbell, Alphanso O’Connor, Mario Simpson and Kemar Hardware, all of Kingston addresses.

A Mac-11 submachine gun and six rounds of ammunition were seized by police in the St Catherine South Division when lawmen carried out operations on Manley Lane. Jevaughn Johnson, 31, of Bark Pen, St Catherine, was arrested and charged in connection with the find. Meanwhile, the police are renewing their appeal for members of the public to report illegal weapons by calling Crime Stop at 311 or King Fish at 811 or the nearest police station.
