DJ Shane offers something ‘Different’

- SADE GARDNER Staff Reporter

Gospel rhythm juggling projects are far and few between, already making Tayon ‘DJ Shane’ Harris’ Different project a standout.

The spunky juggling, released on Friday, features 11 artistes including Papa San, Jason Mighty, DJ Nicholas, Chris Da Ambassada, Rian Davis, Sone G and Prayz. The diversity is amplified with Costa Rican artiste Oban Melody, who adds some Spanish flavour.

Speaking to THE WEEKEND

STAR, Harris shared that the project was actually created a year ago but he decided to put it aside to work on a Christmas production.

“I was in the studio with my keyboardist and felt the need to put out something different from what is out there,” Harris said. “I went on my MPCX and started laying down the drums. The rest is history; I guess this is the time to give birth to it.” He is satisfied with the feedback the project is receiving.

“The artistes that worked on the project with me have been encouraging and supportive as well,” he said. “DJs and fans from Costa Rica have been giving it a lot of positive vibe also. My expectation for the project is that the message of Christ will be heard in a unique way and spread some hope. I am hoping it will bring some joy to each listener, especially in this unprecedented time. All the songs are unique in their own way, bringing a different flow and a different vibe, so I think individually they will all stand out.”

Describing himself as a gospel DJ and producer, Harris was raised in Chester Castle, Hanover, where he first explored his interest in music.

“The real journey began when I started to play sound system in my community. From there, I moved on to a bigger sound system where my passion for music grew stronger. In 2003, I migrated to Canada, became a Christian and in 2005 was when my gospel music journey started,” he said.

His debut production was DJ Nicholas’ When Mi Tek a

Pree released in 2014. He has built his catalogue through his Heavenly Waves Productions label with songs like

Jason Mighty’s Lost Without You,

Prodigal Son’s Over, Marlon Christy’s Good Time and Ryan Mark’s My

Mama.
