‘A MI PICKNEY AND MI LOVE HER’
Tony Rebel pledges family support to Davianah
Up-and-coming singjay Davianah, whose social media video of herself clothed in a bloody T- shirt triggered concern for her welfare last Saturday, has now publicly alleged that she is the victim of abuse.
And her father Tony Rebel has told THE STAR that he and the entire family are there for her. The veteran reggae star, who at times has had a difficult relationship with Davianah, shared that he and his daughter are on great terms.
“A mi pickney and mi love her. Mi hate some of the things that she do, but she is a big woman and I can’t tell her what to do. But we love her and we support her and want to see her be her best self. Before we nuh support her we shut up and don’t seh nothing. But even that is a form of support,” he said. His message to Davianah, he said, is simply to “Try and get yourself together.”
He added “She called me on Saturday and we had a wonderful talk. I hope she will be willing to get help with the issues she is dealing with.”
Davianah’s lone post on her Instagram account on Monday said “No form of abuse is acceptable. I want every woman and every little girl out there to know that their lives, their bodies, their minds have value. Never let anyone tell you different. Never let your abuser convince you otherwise.”
She shared that she was “attacked” and “was so traumatised by the attack that I posted a now-deleted video on my IG. I would like to thank my fans, friends and family who have reached out to me since the incident with an outpouring of prayers and well wishes that has given me strength. I have not made an official police report as yet”.
However, a policeman in St Andrew said that Davianah has, in the past, reported instances of domestic abuse, with the most recent being five months ago. A police officer told THE STAR that in once instance, an accused man was arrested and charged at the time.
He also said that at the time of the report, members of the entertainer’s family had been present, lending support to her.
“A court date was set for the accused to appear in court, but the young lady didn’t turn up,” he said.
Davianah, who is prepping the release of her five-track EP Bad One, is also planning a virtual Bad One concert scheduled for later this month..
