Soldier and brother denied bail in shooting case

- TAMARA BAILEY STAR Writer

Jamaica Defence Force member Hopeton Chambers, 25, and his brother Anthony Chambers, were denied bail when they appeared in the Manchester Parish Court yesterday.

The two are facing charges of wounding with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, stemming from a shooting incident in the St Toolies community in the parish.

The reports are that about 7 p.m. on September 28, the brothers attacked a man at a shop where he was with his family members. The police were alerted to the incident and took swift action, intercepting the men along the main road as they tried to escape. One firearm was seized.

The complainant, who was immediately rushed to the hospital, is said to still be at the medical facility in serious condition. During the court hearing, Judge John Tyme requested that the allegations against the accused be shared in-camera. His reasoning was that if the matter is to be transferred elsewhere, it would also be in-camera. The men are scheduled to reappear in the Manchester Parish Court on Friday, November 12.
